Bashir Haliru Binji assumed office as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of International Energy Insurance (IEI) Plc on August 3, 2026. He is a seasoned insurance executive with over 25 years of leadership experience spanning insurance, reinsurance, corporate strategy, financial inclusion and business transformation.

Before joining IEI Plc, he served as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of FIN Insurance Limited, where he led the Company’s strategic repositioning, strengthened profitability and accelerated digital transformation. He also served as Acting Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC), returning the organisation to profitability while pioneering Nigeria’s index-based agricultural insurance solutions and supporting key national agricultural initiatives.

Earlier in his career, Bashir held senior leadership positions at Zenith Insurance Company Limited and Nigerian Reinsurance Corporation, building deep expertise in underwriting, reinsurance, business development and operational management.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in management studies from Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, and an MBA from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (FCIIN), an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII), London, United Kingdom, and has completed executive programmes at Lagos Business School, IESE Business School, Barcelona, and other leading institutions.

Bashir has also served in several industry leadership roles, including Chairman of Hilal Takaful Nigeria Limited and the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) Governance Council. He is widely recognised for his contributions to corporate governance, product innovation and the advancement of Nigeria’s insurance industry.
